In my case as a homeschooling father, I got a really cool k 12 lesson plans timer so that I could lead my daughter through her customized education process. Since we started using the timer she is doing better at all subjects at the same time given that before she tended to focus more on some subjects like biology and language but dedicated lesser time to maths, so now I am sure she is focusing the same on all topics.

You should probably ask the person who gave you the task, just to be sure. :)

Principals need to have great time management and planning skills.

Time management: They have meetings with faculty, parents, students, clubs, administration, superintendents, the BoE, city council, PSA, union board, etc. The frequency of when they meet with these people vary, but some of them are daily occurrences. They have to work with all parts of the school to ensure the safety and efficiency of the school. When an important issue arises (e.g. relating to campus security) they have to be able to drop everything they're doing and respond to the crisis in an effective way. After everything is said and done about the crisis (handling it, documenting it, going through all the due process requirements) they have to go back to what they were doing before the incident, and work twice as fast to get everything done by deadline. They also have to meet the demands of students, parents, and faculty who are constantly asking for different things at different times. I'm sure they have tons of written/clerical business that only they can handle, too.

Effective planning skills: The principal develops the school and makes it a better place. They have to find ways to make it a safe campus and also an efficient one. The board loves when schools soar academically, athletically or through extra curricular activities. They have to work along side various student groups, faculty teams, volunteer organizations, etc. to program for their students while also ensuring that the students are having a fun and enjoyable experience too. A road map to success (safety, happiness, efficiency) for the school can only be achieved through planning. A principal can't just wake up one day and implement different policies to improve the school. The principal has to plan everything out and go through a long process.

having to a to do list is like a planner where you can have your time open in case something comes up while having a time table will you give the exact time you need in order to get a job done. if you want your schedule to be flexible, use a daily planner / to do list but if you want to have it as a routine, use a time table

Use a timer. I use a timer in my classroom, and really it's not for the students, but for me. LOL! I time things so that I don't stray. Go by a strict schedule. When you come in from school, get a snack and start on your homework. Work for fifteen minute intervals and take frequent breaks. You might even consider getting a planner to write down future projects, tests, and assignments to stay organized.

Oh my goodness, how I can relate to you. In my case, I transferred into a different divison of my company to make more time for my family, but that doesn't sound like an option, so I am going to give you some ideas of how I coped prior to my move. First and foremost, try to do all of your planning for the week on the weekend, if possible, like setting up meetings, writing down appointments in your day planner, and if you have outlook web mail or any other e-mail, take advantage of your calendar and USE IT! See if it is an option to take your spouse or significant other out to lunch a couple of times during the week. If you have children, eat breakfast with them in the morning before you leave. Set aside a special family day or evening at least once per week, on which you come together as a family, like a game night or a homecooked dinner and talk to each other about what has been going on in your lives over the previous week. Also, make the most of your time on off days and on weekends, but don't forget to make some time for yourself, like devoting time to a favorite hobby or just taking a breather on your own, all alone to regroup. Good luck and best wishes with your career and your family life. :)
